When Alice Carroll is in grade three she narrowly escapes losing her life in a school shooting. All she remembers is the woman comforting her in the moments before the gunshot, and that one second she was there, the next she wasn’t.

It’s bad enough coming to terms with surviving while others, including her favourite teacher, didn’t, let alone dealing with the fact that she might wink out of existence at any time.

Alice spends the next few years seeing specialists about her Post Traumatic Stress as a result of VD–Voldemort Day–but it’s not until she has a nightmare about The Day That Shall Not Be Mentioned, disappears from her bed, is found by police, and taken home to meet her four-year-old self that she realizes she’s been time travelling.

Alice is unsure if her getting unstuck in time should be considered an ability or a liability, until she disappears right in front of her high school at dismissal time, the busiest time of day. Worried that someone may find out about her problem before long, Alice enlists her best friend (and maybe boyfriend), Pete, to help her try to control her shifting through time with limited success. She’s just about ready to give up when the shooter is caught. Alice resolves to take control of her time travelling in order to go back to That Day, stop the shooting, and figure out the identity of the stranger who shielded Alice’s body with her own.

Write • Revise • Repeat: A Self-Editing Toolkit at EFACON2026

I am thrilled to announce that I will be presenting a session at this year’s Editorial Freelancer’s Association’s virtual EFACON 2026 conference!

The name of my session is “Write • Revise • Repeat: A Self-Editing Toolkit.” Here’s a bit more about it:

Even experienced editors struggle to edit their own work. Our expertise does not eliminate our brain’s tendency to “autocorrect” errors or eliminate cognitive bias when we are too close to the prose. This session takes a look at why it’s difficult to edit your own work and offers practical strategies for editing your manuscript with greater clarity and objectivity.

We’ll begin with “big-picture” developmental editing techniques—such as reverse outlining and building a “book bible.” Next, we’ll discuss how to copy/line edit your manuscript using multiple, focused passes.

The use of AI tools as a diagnostic tool to train yourself to identify personal stylistic habits, patterns, and crutches while revising will also be discussed.

Put Your Readers in the Scene: What it Means to Show and Not Tell – a two-part workshop.

What is meant by “showing” versus “telling” and  how can you tell the difference?   Is it ever okay to “tell?” Is there such a thing as showing too much? Explore  these important questions by looking at dialogue, description, pacing and transitions, and learn how to invite your readers into the scenes you write. 

Part 1

What is showing and not telling? When is it okay to tell? When should you show? Using imagery to paint a word picture. Active vs. passive voice.

Cookies and Holly Jolly Market

My next show is on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Monsignor Percy Johnson Catholic High School, 2170 Kipling Avenue, Etobicoke from 10 am to 3 pm. With over 40 vendors, this looks like it will be awesome!

Holiday Market

After that is the Holiday Market at Temple Sinai on Sunday, November 27, 2022 from 2 to 5 pm. Come on out for some great holiday gifts and (in the case of my merchandise), some unique hand made gifts, as well.

Old Fashioned Christmas Craft Show

My last stop (so far) this year is the 7th Annual Old Fashioned Christmas Craft Show on Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Newmarket Community Centre, 200 Doug Duncan Drive. This always proves to be an amazing show with a great turnout and some amazing gifts from (over 70!) talented people. This show is worth the wait!
