Implanted in a rural camp, Brooklyn and her friends are cut off from their families and the outside world. Each day is filled with combat training to assure their safety against the crazed, belligerent, and deadly— those infected with a mysterious virus.

If the world couldn’t get any crazier, a letter ups the insanity…

After being assured day after day that the world outside their little camp had been compromised, Brooklyn’s cabin-mate, Dawson Winters, finds a letter that turns everything they’d known upside down. There is a world outside the trees that surrounds their camp, and the virus they all feared seems non-existent.

Determined to see it herself, Brooklyn plots with others to attempt an escape…

On the outside, Brooklyn finds the world is as normal as ever. But when they are attacked in the city, they dispose of their attackers far more efficiently than any normal human.. Is there more to Brooklyn and her friends then just being highly trained?

As their exploration continues, the group is faced with impossible feats. Betrayal, love, death, and a powerful sense ofcamaraderie lead Brooklyn and her friends to fight for their life, their freedom, and most of all, each other.

Gramps always said that when the crickets were quiet, something bad was coming. And the crickets have been as silent as the dead. It started with the murdered deer in the playground with the unmistakable purple of a foxglove in its mouth. But in the dying boondock town of Emerald Cove, life goes on.

I work at Gramps’s diner, and the cakes―the entitled rich kids who vacation here―make our lives hell. My best friend, Alex Pace, is the one person who gets me. Only Alex has changed. He’s almost like a stranger now. I can’t figure it out…or why I’m having distinctly more-than-friend feelings for him. Ones I shouldn’t be having.

Then one of the cakes disappears.

When she turns up murdered, a foxglove in her mouth, a rumor goes around that Alex was the last person seen with her—and everyone but me believes it. Well, everyone except my worst enemy, Jenika Shaw. When Alex goes missing, it’s up to us to prove his innocence and uncover the true killer. Mondays at the diner were unpredictable. It was either chaos or a graveyard, no in between. But one thing was certain—Monday nights always brought in the worst kind of crazy.  Tonight that crazy came in the form of Paul Cross, town hermit. One of them, anyway. This was the Pacific Northwest.

I have always been drawn to story telling. In fact, I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t telling a story in my head or on paper. In grade school, we had journal writing time which I turned into story telling time, weaving tales of magic and adventure that mimicked the fairy tales and myths that I loved to read. It was there, with the help of two very special teachers, that I nurtured this love and started my journey as a writer.
I write fantasy, paranormal romance, and everything in between, seasoned with a good dash of adventure and mystery. Join me on my tales of magic, adventure, and romance.

Summary from Goodreads:

A new series about mind readers from USA Today bestselling authors…

Everyone thinks I’m a genius.

Everyone is wrong.

Sure, I finished Harvard at eighteen and now make crazy money at a hedge fund. But that’s not because I’m unusually smart or hard-working.

It’s because I cheat.

You see, I have a unique ability. I can go outside time into my own personal version of reality—the place I call “the Quiet”—where I can explore my surroundings while the rest of the world stands still.

I thought I was the only one who could do this—until I met her.

My name is Darren, and this is how I became entangled with all the Russians and learned that I’m a Reader.

Dima Zales’s Top Ten Inspirations for The Thought Readers:

1. My wife and collaborator Anna – she inspires everything that I do.

2. Mentalism – which is a type of entertainment meant to look like mind reading. This is something that I personally do (you can see examples on my Youtube channel).

3. “Bullet time” slow motion fight sequences that became famous in action movies.

4. Moving to Florida after living twenty-three years in NYC. In this novel, I re-visit my favorite and familiar spots, especially in Brooklyn.

5. Music by Enigma (in the book there’s even a mention of a song by them).

6. Sushi.

7. Card magic and gambling demonstrations – this is related to mentalism and something else that I personally do (for entertainment purposes).

8. For book three, I got some inspiration from the practice of meditation, which features prominently.

9. For book four, I was influenced by my obsession with longevity.

10. It’s not a coincidence that there are so many Russians in these books. I was born in Russia, and that fact clearly had an impact on the characters.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000026_00026]

Dream of Me (Dream Maker #1)

by Quinn Loftis

Release Date: 02/28/15

319 pages

Summary from Goodreads:

“In the evening… [he] blows softly upon their necks, till their heads begin to droop. […] Under each arm he carries an umbrella; one of them, with pictures on the inside, he spreads over the good children, and then they dream the most beautiful stories the whole night.” ~ Hans Christian Anderson

Since the dawn of time, Brudair, otherwise known as the Sandman to the world, has faithfully lived out his purpose, faithfully performed his duties. He has never questioned his lot among the immortals, until now, until her. Sarah Serenity Tillman, a consummate beauty both inside and out, is a high school senior five months from her graduation. She has great plans, dreams of leaving the small town of her childhood behind her forever. But destiny has other plans, and it’s the Sandman’s job to make sure those plans are fulfilled.

The tall muscular Sandman, known as Dair to his friends, dressed in black, wrapped in shadows, is more than a myth. And he has a job to do. His very existence makes him a creature of the night, because dreams, (yes the legends got that part right), were indeed his specialty. But his purpose was more than just weaving dreams for sleeping children. No, his dreams were made to influence, made to ensure that certain special individuals, those individuals who would change the course of history, actually accepted their chosen destiny.

Little does Serenity know that she is Dair’s next assignment. And the dream that he weaves for her, if she follows its influence, will change the course of, not only her life, but possibly the whole of history as well. But she isn’t the only one being influenced. The beauty inside of her was weighing on the Sandman, lighting up the darkness that was his constant companion. Her light was warmth, it was life, and he didn’t understand how he had survived the previous millennia without it.

The Sandman was indeed greater than anything humans had ever imagined, and his purpose was vital to the course of history. So what happens when the weaver of dreams gets so distracted by a mere human that he ignores his own duties in the immortal realm? How can an immortal who was never meant to have a mate, join a young woman in her destiny without irrevocably changing the lives of millions and potentially altering history in a way the Creator never intended?.

dream of me character development

Sometime later she woke to a dark room. She didn’t remember turning off the light but then her aunt could have done it. There was something strange about the darkness that surrounded her. Like a blanket being wrapped around her shoulders, the darkness seemed to envelop her. She pushed herself up until she was sitting and blinked several times, attempting to get her eyes to adjust to the lack of light, but it was no use. She was about to stand up when a chill ran down her back. It was one of those feelings she got when she knew someone was staring at her, even though she couldn’t see them. Serenity licked her lips nervously and swallowed down the lump that had developed in her throat before she spoke.

“Sandman.” The word came out much more desperately than she had intended. It almost sounded as if she were calling out to a lover. She swallowed again and then said more firmly. “If you’re there, please answer me. I sort of feel like an idiot talking into the dark.” Her words were met with silence, but still she felt the presence of something or someone. Good thing she wasn’t easily dissuaded. Unless of course she was indeed talking to an empty room, then perhaps it was less of a good thing and more of a need to get your brain checked out thing. “Please answer me, Brudair; are you here?”

“Yes.” A deep, rich voice threatened to lull her to sleep with one tiny word. She shook herself, pushing away the drowsiness.

“Can I see you?” she asked and felt her heart beat speed up at the prospect of finally seeing the object of her obsession for the past few days.

“I haven’t decided if that is a good idea or not.”

Okay, so perhaps she didn’t need to ask him any more questions because his voice was doing tingly things to her. Not okay, Sarah, not okay, she silently reprimanded herself. “Why are you still here if you’ve already shown me the dream meant to influence me?”

No answer.

“Why haven’t you moved on to someone else?”

Again no answer.

Getting frustrated, Serenity ground her teeth together as she spoke. “Why are you here?” Perhaps, that came out a little more rudely than she intended, but she wanted answers.

The deep voice finally rumbled “I am here because I want you.”

Whoa, did not see that coming.

Mean Girls Gone Wild

life unaware coverReagan Flay is one of the popular girls at school, but she has a secret, one she never wants anyone outside of her family and the school nurse to know. Little does she know, all of her friends have secrets they’re hiding, too, but not for long. In Life Unaware by Cole Gibsen, no secret is safe, and relationships are not what they seem. Reagan’s secret is about to be outed to the entire school, and when it is, her life will change forever.

I loved Life Unaware. I breezed through it in three evenings–I didn’t want to put it down. Though the issues Reagan faces–anxiety attacks, private texts made public, betrayal by those she thought were her friends–are not necessarily earth shattering by adult standards, to a teenage girl with self-esteem issues, they’re everything. Gibsen does a wonderful job in the way she portrays Reagan as she works through her problems and comes out on the other end. Reagan demonstrates that life will change, not always for the better, but there’s always a silver lining. Reagan’s journey illustrates that life experiences build character and make you stronger, if you can muster enough courage to weather the storm.

Young readers who liked Mean Girls, Gossip Girl, or Pretty Little Liars would most definitely enjoy Life Unaware. Brought to the lowest point in her life thus far, Reagan looks to the future, rather than dwelling in the past. The underlying message is one that readers of all ages can take away: when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

About the Author

I’ve always been a writer. I grew up duct taping my novels together, started writing complete manuscripts in high school and studied creative writing at Johns Hopkins University. Upon graduating, I decided it was finally time to actually give my dream career a chance. So, of course, I started writing a young adult paranormal romance series — and no, I’m not jumping on the bandwagon. I’ve been a true paranormal supporter for my entire life! I blame my obsession almost completely on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, my all-time favorite television show. And, before you ask: Yes, I own every season… even the post WB ones! I especially challenge anyone to watch the first three seasons and not fall in love with Angel, securing a lifelong love of vampires! Other culprits of my paranormal obsession are some of my favorite authors: JK Rowling, Raymond Feist, Meg Cabot, Richelle Mead, Lynne Ewing and Tamora Pierce.

Excerpt from Snark and Stage Fright by Stephanie Wardrop:

The most senior Mrs. Endicott pulled out the chair and sat, hands folded, as if she were about to interview me for a job or a scholarship I would never get, though she would enjoy watching me squirm and supplicate myself in false hope. She waved me over to the chair across from her and nodded as I took a seat.

“What does your father do—Georgiana, is it?”

“Um, yeah. My dad teaches Victorian literature at Meryton College.” It occurred to me that this was an acceptable answer, one that indicated a certain amount of culture and intellectual merit in my parentage so I said it kind of brightly.

“A decent regional school,” she conceded. “And what is it you want to do, Georgiana, when you graduate from Longbourne High School?”

There was something in her tone of voice that made me forget my promise to Michael from a whole seven minutes earlier about not upsetting his family. The imperious way she looked down her nose at me—literally—and held her jaw set so firmly made me form the words, “I plan to find a rich boy, get myself pregnant as fast as possible, and live off his family’s money for the rest of my life. Maybe open a little boutique in town, too, just for something to do because I do not think I want to be a fulltime mommy.” My face flushed as I finished because I knew it was wrong to voice her unspoken fears to her, but I couldn’t help it. She didn’t think I was good enough; Catalina didn’t think I was good enough; probably ninety percent of the Cape’s population didn’t think I was good enough to walk their beaches. And if I couldn’t prove my worth to them, I would at least give them a little discomfort, kind of like a bee that stings the arm that swats it. And then dies.

She pushed herself away from the table and stood up, a little shaky on her legs but her facial expression carved in granite, a bas-relief of displeasure. She started to walk away, but then turned and asked, as if she had just recalled something that gave her great delight, “You write editorials for that alternative newspaper the school board keeps trying to shut down, don’t you?”

“Yes. Last year I actually got the school board to agree that vegan alternatives to lunch needed to be offered every day. And not just wilted lettuce in the salad bar.”

She leaned forward and studied me so carefully I thought I would crack into pieces under her gaze like a clay pot stuck in the kiln too long. She said, “You think yourself a very clever girl, don’t you, Georgiana? Clever and amusing?”

“I, um … I don’t have an answer to that, Ms. Endicott.”

She stepped carefully up to the little ledge at the doorway to the living room, then turned back for a moment to warn me, “Sometimes clever people are not as clever as they think they are,” before walking out the door.

I just sat there alone for a few minutes, catching my breath.

I’d been on the Cape for fewer than fifty hours and already I had:

(1) been molested by a literary lion

(2) taken a spectacular fall off the deck in front Michael’s entire family, and

(3) made two sworn enemies, one old and one young but both ready to place my head on a pike next to the compound flagpole.

And the real party hadn’t even started yet.
